The gliding system
Four Way Glide is very suitable for moving and placing the client in the bed
and for turning the client out of bed. If the system is used for turning the
client out of bed, you must ensure that the system is locked!
The Four Way Glide can glide in all 4 directions - thus enabling it to be
used higher up or longer down in the bed. The system can also be mounted while
the client is in the bed.
The glidesystem consists of 2 parts; 1 nylon sheet which is fastened to the mattress by means of elastic bands and 1 open quilted gliding mattress (underside nylon, top side cotton). On the back the gliding mattress is equipped with handles to control the turning and moving and 1 square non-slip piece. The non-slip can by means of a sewn on curtain lock the mattress and unlock it again. This is done by means of the straps with silicone handles. When placing the system in the bed it is important that the non-slip square is placed under the sitting part for optimal function. The area is marked on the top side with a sewing on the side.
IMMEDIA's wedges made of soft foam are recommended for positioning and support.
You can find more information on wedges.
The gliding mattress lies firmly in the bed and can be protected with an incontinence sheet, for example 538/PU (120x160 cm) or IM 9031 (110x140 cm). The non-slip on the underside makes sure (when the system is locked) that the client does not glide down in the bed when the head of the bed is elevated. At the same time the gliding mattress is not locked at the head and foot of the bed, which enables the client to move his upper body and legs freely.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Specifications:
The open gliding mattress is made of 100% polyester fibres. The outer side is made of 100% cotton and the underside of smooth 100% nylon. Centred on teh back is a non-slip square. The underside of the mattress is furthermore equipped with a 100% nylon curtain , which can be pulled up over the non-slip to unlock the system!
The nylon sheet is made of 100% nylon with a high friction underside and a low friction top side marked with This side up. The sheet is fastened to the mattress by means of 4 wide elastic bands placed in the corners
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Washing instructions:
The glide mattress can be washed and dried at a temperature of max. 60°C. No use of chlorine or softener.
The nylon sheet can be washed at a temperature of max. 60°C and dried at a start temperature of max. 120°C and a exit temperature of max. 80°C. No use of chlorine or softener.
The Glide Mattress
lies firmly in the bed and is best protected with a cover. We recommend a
waterproof polyurethane inner cover and a comfortable cotton sheet outer cover.
We also recommend the use of an incontinence underpad (538/PU or IM9031)on
top of the Glide Mattress. These large underpads are waterproof and also ideal
as an aid in turning and moving patients.
See product sheet for underpads (PVC-FREE line).
The head end of
the Glide Mattress is extended with a length of cotton material which must
be folded down behind the main mattress when the bed head is elevated. This
prevents the Glide Mattress sliding down the bed.
The Glide Mattress
measuring 92x195 cm has been developed for the regular turning or mobilising
of bed patients. The size of the mattress ensures that the patient is fully
supported during turning, sitting up or moving. Model IM 120/195 is recommended
for heavy patients.

The Immedia One Way Glide (OWG) is an anti-slip device, designed to move in
one direction only. It allows a patient to slide easily into an upright position
in bed or chair, but not to slide forward again.
The OWG is very functional and easy to use.
The OWG is now available in a PVC-free edition with velour topside.
When the OWG is placed at the chair with the arrows pointing towards the back of the chair the velour strips inside/at the back side prevents sliding forwards/down. This way the client maintains his/her sitting position. The right sitting position is very important to maintain, preventing pressure sores.
The OWG with velour
is available in to editions:
- The 1 layer edition, which is called OWG Light, this OWG is recommendable
for light weight persons and the persons who is threatened by decubitus, and
who is sitting on an anti-decubitus cushion.
- The original cylinder shaped model - though with velour topside and fibre
filling.
The OWG with velour are both with fibre filling, which make them light, respirent and very comfortable. The velour models are not recommended for slippery surfaces.
To ease the pulling back we can recommend to place an incontinence sheet, a Swan slide or a Duckling on top of the OWG. After pulling back the patient the Swan slide or the Duckling is removed again. If you use an incontinence sheet the may not be as wide as the OWG.
Using the OWG you
have to be aware of if the patient is in the risk group of decubitus.
Specifications:
The One Way Glide Cushion is especially developed to avoid sliding down the
bed, chair wheelchair, etc.
The One Way Glide is produced like a folded sliding/braking cushion. The inside
is very low friction nylon with one way Velours strips. The outside is non-slip
material.
The
One Way Glide is placed with the arrows pointing towards the back of the chair
or towards the bed head. The One Way Glide only allows slide in the same direction
in which the arrows are pointing, so they prevent sliding down in the bed,
chair, wheelchair, etc. The client therefore stays in the desired position.
A cushion or an incontinence underpad can be placed upon the One Way Glide.
The cushion should not be wider than the One Way Glide.
The 37/8 One Way Glide is used in bed to prevent sliding down when
the bed head is elevated. It is recommended to place the One Way Glide together
with an incontinence underpad in the bed before the client is going to sleep.
If this is not possible, the two helping aids can be placed as when you place
a normal sheet. Shoulders, back and the behind should be covered by the underpad.
By pulling the underpad you can pull the client higher up in bed and the client
will stay there even when elevated.
The 44/8, 45/8, 38/8 and 39/8 are used in chair, wheelchair, on car seats,
etc. Pulling back the client can be simplified by using a little incontinence
underpad to pull in. You can also use the Immedia sling, Swan slide or Duckling
pulling cushion.
To protect the One Way Glide different kinds of covers are available. Be aware
of use with decubitus threatened patients.

The Swan Glide
system has been developed in cooperation with Max Nielsen who for several
years has worked with and instructed hospital personnel in the subject of
patient moving techniques.
The system is for use by staff/helpers only, not patients themselves.
The Swan Glide
system consists of a Glide Board and a Glide Pad. The upholstered part of
the Glide Pad has very little friction and its length makes it easy to remove
after use. The Glide Board has cutouts for wheelchair wheels and presents
only a slight downward slope so that the patient does not feel insecure when
being moved.
The Glide Pad must be folded round the board and then pushed under the patient. The helper is then able to move the patient by pulling the hand strap on the Glide Pad.
The helper should
stand with one foot a little in front of the other and pull the patient's
torso towards him/herself. In this way the energy required is minimal and
good balance can be maintained. If possible the patient should help in maintaining
the balance.
In cases where the patient is unable to give active help, it is advisable
to use two helpers. One helper can pull while the other helper supports the
patient.
If the patient is capable of offering more help, the Immedia Butterfly Glide
Board can be used.

The Mole is specially produced to help in taking X-rays of bed bound patients.
The bedsheet is loosened, so you can get hold of it. The Mole is placed oblique to the shoulder from the bed head pointing towards the upper corner, and the Mole is pushed in between the top sheet and bedsheet until resistance is felt.
Next, you turn the Mole at right angles to the patient. X-ray cassettes and eventual screens have to be put in the enclosure bag, and the plates are placed slightly apart and the bag with the X-ray cassette is pushed in under the patient between the two plates. The two corner straps are used for positioning. You can then take the sheet with both hands and push the Mole with both hips/thighs, helped by the weight of the patient. Correction of the placing can now be done via the straps.
For X-raying the hips, you place the Mole oblique to the hip from the foot, pointing towards the upper bed head corner, and then follow the guidelines above.

The Thorax Slide
is placed directly on the mattress, so that the top border is located at the
bedhead and the two other edges are positioned at each side of the bed. Note
that the double piece has to be placed so that it starts at about the level
of the patients ear (i.e., 10 to 15 cm from the bedhead). The edges are folded
in under the mattress. The attached handles on the Thorax Slide have to be
turned up to face the patient. A sheet can be placed as normal upon the Thorax
Slide.
For the X-ray, the X-ray cassette is placed together with the screen in the
enclosure bag, the sheets are loosened and the bag with the X-ray cassette
can now be moved under the patient, between the two nylon layers. Final positioning
can be made via the straps on the bag.
After the X-ray, the bag is removed together with the cassette, the Thorax
Slide remains in the bed and the loose sheet can be folded under the mattress
again.

The 2MOVE can be
used under such conditions as transfer of a patient from the bed to the operating
table, from bed to an X-ray table, and from the bed to the bath or washing
table, etc.
The 2MOVE is placed
under the patient, so that the patient is slightly elevated towards the direction
of subsequent movement. The 2MOVE is pushed in under the patient, and the
patient is gently eased back.
The 2MOVE is only positioned a few cms under the patient. Head and legs are
carefully lifted up onto the board. It is best, if possible, to cross the
patients legs, so that the nearest leg is underneath and the upper leg crossed
over. Pushing on the shoulder and hip, it is now easy to move the patient
over onto the 2MOVE.
In cases where a sheet is used, the 2MOVE can be placed underneath, and manoeuvring the patient can be performed in the same way as described above.
The 2MOVE can be removed by placing one hand between the board and the patient, and the other under the board itself. The upper hand is pulled against the patient, while the other hand pushes against the nylon material surface.
For further instructions and details of other possible uses, please contact Immedia.

Immedia's PediTurn
is a very simple but effective turning pad. The PediTurn is used to help with
the problem of twisting the heal and foot when transferring from bed to wheelchair,
etc. The PediTurn is covered with a non-slip material that prevents slipping
against both the floor and a patient's feet. When the PediTurn is used, the
carer can more often move the patient around without the use of a lift.
The PediTurn is thin, soft and light - the weight is only a few hundred grams.
This is very important for daily use to help make sure that the patient's
feet do not get twisted or sprained. The very smooth inside nylon material
ensures that the PediTurn always works, even when the patient's feet are not
well placed.
First, assess the
patient to ensure that they are able to bear their own weight and understand
what is required of them.
Position the PediTurn on the floor with the carer's foot partially on the
top surface to prevent movement prior to the patient transfer. Place the patient's
feet centrally on the PediTurn, which should be midway between the two transfer
locations. Using relevant handling techniques, the patient is helped to their
feet, turned 90º on the PediTurn, and then re-seated.
Alternatively, following careful assessment of the patient, the carer may
find it possible to control the turn by placing one foot partially on the
top surface and then use this to turn the PediTurn Pad.
For use as an unassisted turning aid, position the PediTurn as in the assisted
transfer. The patient can raise him/herself to their feet and turn through
90º to re-seat themselves.
Ensure the PediTurn is not left on the floor following use.
Specification:
The PediTurn comprises a fabric covered, low friction disc with a tough material
covering on both sides for use in turning a standing patient. The inner surface
is low friction nylon, similar to that used in the manufacture of the Multi
Glide range of products.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________
Cleaning Instructions:
The outer surfaces
of the PediTurn may be lightly brushed or wiped with a damp cloth.
Do not separate the discs.
EasyTurn is designed for use on car seats or to assist in performing general swivelling movements. EasyTurn can help reduce back strain when entering or leaving a vehicle.
EasyTurn is a very
suitable and comfortable solution for permanently handicapped, temporarily
handicapped and fully mobile individuals. It provides a big relief for people
who are often in and out of their car.
Instruction for use:
When entering a
vehicle the user sits on the EasyTurn, feet still on the ground then turns
easily, or is assisted to turn with both legs lifted, into the forward facing
position. When leaving the vehicle, the process is reversed.
EasyTurn is also useful for general swivelling procedures. For example, it
may be used (under supervision) on the edge of a bed to assist the patient
getting on or off. A similar movement can be used for getting onto a trolley,
examination couch or X-ray table.
Specifications:
The EasyTurn has
a non-slip material on one side and comfortable padded cotton or Velour on
the topside.
The EasyTurn is held together with a plate and may not be separated.
The EasyTurn is patented: Danish Patent No. 9400417.
Washing Instructions:
The EasyTurn is washable at max. 40°C, but can also be lightly brushed or wiped with a damp cloth.
Do not use fabric
softeners or bleach.
